For research on mountainous agriculture, soil conservation, soil erosion and watershed management, the Department of SoilConservation and Watershed Management is a research institute under Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Soil Resource Development Institute, Farm Gate, Dhaka-1215. In the year 1994, with the approval of Bandarban Sadar, a research center was established in the natural environment of Meghla with 67.50 acres (27 hectares) of land and 3,534.72 square feet (328.38 square meters). Since its inception, 'Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Center has started researching modern hill farming techniques and using suitable technologies for soil conservation and watershed management. Besides, training for expansion of exhibition and expansion workers, farmers and various organizations are provided for the transfer of technology.
